Born in Thailand, Sarawanee Tanatanit was trained as a rhythmic gymnast before she pursued her dancing career. She joined the Rhythmic Gymnastic National team of Thailand at the age of 13 and she participated in numerous international competitions. Mrs. Tanatanit won a gold medalist in Junior Rhythmic Gymnastic Championship of Thailand in 1994 and South East Asian Game in 1995. She started her ballet training at Dance Centre ballet school and Varaporn Kanjana Schools in Bangkok before transferring to the Goh Ballet Academy in Vancouver, Canada in 1996. In 1999, Tanatanit was a finalist in the Asia Pacific International Ballet Competition in Tokyo, and was awarded the Royal Academy of Dancing Solo Seal. She has since been accepted to participate in International Ballet Competitions in Helsinki and Adeline Genee ballet competition in London. Winner of the 2001 Prix de Lausanne, an international youth competition in Switzerland had sent her to join American Ballet Theatre Studio Company in NYC that same year. Tanatanit became an apprentice in the main company in August 2002 and a member of the corps de ballet of the American Ballet Theatre in January 2003. She was named one of Dance Magazine’s 25 to Watch in 2008.
She has been working with numerous choreographers and travelling as a performer throughout the world and made a début to her first production at the Patravadi Theatre. She is currently dancing with Grand Theatre Ballet de Geneve in Switzerland and also working as a freelancer.
